If you want our next president to seriously do something about global warming, this should be a dealbreaker.

Clinton takes the politically expedient option on a gas tax holiday, while Obama stands his ground.

Even worse, she runs a commercial slamming Obama for taking the courageous position.

This is why we have gridlock. This is why nothing at all has been done about global warming.

More of the same vs. change.

This is what 50 looks like

Another Madonna, another Patmix diatribe.

I'll leave this one to the New York Times which summed up Madges latest as follows:

The sound of “Hard Candy” is partly the sound of an era when New York dance clubs were an experiment in improbable social interactions — gays, socialites, breakdancers, artists — that became a pipeline to pop radio.

The dance floor — not the pulpit, not the art gallery — is Madonna’s truest home, and it’s a good place to shake off pretensions and excesses. Her grand statement on “Hard Candy” is nothing more than that she’s still around and can still deliver neat, calculated pop songs. Madonna has had more profound moments — ”Like a Prayer,” “Ray of Light” — but not every pop star is cut out for full-time profundity. This time around, concocting new ditties that will have her arena audiences singing along, she was smart to stay shallow.

I still can't believe that a Democrat is using images of Bin Laden in an ad against another Democrat.

Can't believe it.

The New York Times editorial page, which endorsed Hillary Clinton, today weighs in on her campaign, with must-read: The Low Road to Victory.

This is what 35,000 people looks like...

...when they are so inspired by a political candidate that they come out on a Friday night to hear him speak.

Michael, Obama, and Branding

This is Michael on stage during his sold-out talk on desire and design at AIGA. His lecture covered everything from his favorite book jacket covers to skinny models. Unfortunately, he never got a chance to discuss his take on Obama's branding and design, which Michael has described as among the best he has ever seen.

Michael was quoted in a Newsweek article last week about the power of fonts, which touched on the Obama campaign's design prowess and here's another great article that explores it further: "Why the Obama brand is working."

Anniversaries

One of the last posts I wrote before taking a year-long hiatus from Patmix in January 2007 was about Andi Parhamovich. I had met her when I worked on the 2006 Bring 'Em Home Now concert.

One year after she was killed in Iraq, two years after that concert, and five years after the start of this awful war, her boyfriend has published "I Lost My Love in Bagdhad," a memoir of Andi and their lives together.

You can find an excert in this week's Newsweek.

Ignore YouTube at Your Own Risk

This video really embodies how politics and campaigns have been turned on their head by YouTube.

This couldn't have cost more than a few hundred bucks to make, but it is powerful in so many ways and it's been viewed by 350,000 in just one day.
